Barnsley and Doncaster Rovers are due to meet at the Keepmoat Stadium on Saturday, October 3 with the Oakwell return scheduled for Saturday, February 20, 2016.

Normally, adult ticket prices for Category A fixtures at Doncaster would be £24 but, following the ground-breaking agreement, fans will now pay £4 less for next month’s visit by the Reds. Concession prices are also reduced.

For the Oakwell encounter, meanwhile, an identical price of £20 for adults will be charged - down from the advanced purchase rates of between £23 and £25, depending on the area of the stadium.

It represents a decent saving for fixtures that traditionally bring attendances among the highest in both clubs’ seasons.

Rovers marketing manager Ryan Murrant said: “We sat down with our counterparts at Barnsley last week and discussed how we can make these big games bigger.

“We have had some real fixture congestion already this season and this is a great way to get more people backing both sides.

“The two clubs value their home and away support, and want a better atmosphere at games, so we have agreed prices and we now look forward to these more affordable games attracting bigger crowds.

“I don’t know of many other local derbies where the prices would actually come down so fair play to both clubs for making this great decision. The reciprocal deal means that our adult fans will save up to £5 on their match tickets.”

The price reduction aligns with the Football Supporters Federations ‘National weekend of Action’, where members and supporters will ask Premier League clubs to lower away fan prices.

Prices for the two derbies will be: Adults £20, Senior £14, Under 17-21 £10, Aunder 16 £5, Under 12 £1.
