Dickov hopes Macheda will return after rehabilitation

DONCASTER ROVERS manager Paul Dickov has revealed the club have made contact with Manchester United this week about bringing back Federico Macheda to the Keepmoat Stadium – once he recovers from injury.

Rovers suffered a hefty blow last week when the one-month loan spell of the Italian, who had notched three goals in five appearances, was cut short due to a hamstring injury.

Macheda is expected to be sidelined for a spell, but Rovers are hopeful of bringing him back from the Premier League champions before the emergency loan deadline on November 28.

Dickov said: “First and foremost, we were all disappointed because he made an immediate impact and we felt with the more games he was going to get, the better he was going to be.

“But there’s been contact between the clubs and I know Gavin (Baldwin – chief executive) has spoken to his counterpart over at Manchester United about the possibility of getting him back.

“He’s going to be out for a few weeks, so it gives us some time to let us do it.

“What we have to do is respect the player and the club, because he’s their player.”

Dickov insists he will adopt a strict quality control policy regarding prospective loan signings and will only bring in a player better than those at his disposal.

The Rovers chief also revealed that the presence at the club of right-back Reece Wabara, who switched to the left-hand side of defence in the 1-0 victory over Leicester last time out, can help mitigate for the loss of left-back James Husband, now out for three months after shoulder surgery.

He said: “What I don’t want to do, whether it be in the left-back or striker position, is to get someone in for the sake of it.

“If we believe we have players here who are just as good or better, it’s pointless taking a risk.

“James has been fantastic and was getting better, but injuries are going to happen throughout the course of the season and one of the reasons we brought in Reece was that he can cover us all over the back four.

“Funnily enough, I thought Reece had his best game for us at left-back (against Leicester).”

Struggling Yeovil have signed midfielder Fraser Fyvie on loan from fellow Championship side Wigan until January.

The 20-year-old, signed by the Latics from Aberdeen for a fee thought to be in the region of £500,000 in 2012, will stay with Gary Johnson’s side until New Year’s Day.

Fraser, a Scotland Under-21 international, made nine appearances during his first season and was thought of highly by previous manager Roberto Martinez, but has grown disillusioned with a lack of playing opportunities under his replacement Owen Coyle.

Fulham are taking a look at Port Vale’s highly-rated teenage goalkeeper Ryan Boot. The 19-year-old has joined the Premier League club on loan and is scheduled to play for their academy side against Aston Villa tomorow.

“Fulham were looking for a ’keeper for their Under-19s and have invited Ryan down for the week as an experience, and then we will see what develops,” said Vale assistant manager Mark Grew.
