Doncaster Rovers 1 Southampton 0: Rovers deserved victory, says Saunders

It was top versus bottom in the Championship today but Doncaster Rovers stunned high-flying Southampton to climb off the foot of the table.

Rovers injury list is lengthy with El Hadji Diouf, Pascal Chimbonda, George Friend, Richard Naylor, Shelton Martis, James Chambers, Martin Woods, Chris Brown, Paul Keegan and Tommy Spurr all out. Adam Lockwood is suspended.

No goals in first hour, but then Billy Sharp popped up to stun Saints with the only goal of the match.

Rovers boss Dean Saunders, whose side are no longer 24th in the table, said: “That’s been coming for some time and I thought we deserved it.

“We had a lot of players missing through injury but those who did play today did brilliant and hopefully we can climb the table now.”
