Doncaster Rovers 3 Wigan Athletic 0: Dickov plans to recruit for rejuvenated Rovers

DONCASTER Rovers manager Paul Dickov watched his side chalk up their biggest win of the season before reiterating his desire to sign another striker.

The impressive triumph over FA Cup holder Wigan ended a nine-game winless streak, and a run during which Rovers had scored only twice in their last seven Championship matches.

But the display did not sway Dickov from his pre-game stance of wanting to strengthen his squad, particularly up front.

“The priority before the game was to bring in a striker on loan and that hasn’t changed,” he said.

“I’d like to sign a couple, if possible, but we will concentrate this week on bringing one in before we go to Blackpool on Saturday.”

Doncaster had recent signings Gabriel Taman and Abdoulaye Meite making their home debuts, and midfield anchorman Paul Keegan back after a long-term
injury.

Dickov added: “I was loathe to make excuses about injuries during the run we’ve had, but it’s great to have players back and also strengthen the side by bringing one or two in.

“I’m delighted with the result, and the performance, and keeping a clean sheet.

“We’ve shown exactly what we are capable of. There are 20 games left and we have to perform like that in every one. If we do, we won’t have any problem at all staying out of the bottom three.

“Chris Brown was magnificent and deservedly scored a couple of goals, but he flogs himself to death every game and we need to bring someone in to help him out.

“James Coppinger’s just come back from injury and I thought he was outstanding. When he plays like that he’s as good as anything in the league.”
