Rovers manager Paul Dickov has revealed that he previously twice tried to sign the forward, who used to play for his former club Oldham Athletic and he has finally now got his man.

The 20-year-old became the Millers’ record signing on the final day of the summer transfer window, arriving for a six-figure fee from Oldham Athletic.

Clarke-Harris has shown glimpses of his potential for the Millers, famously firing in the winning goal moments after coming off the substitutes’ bench in the televised 2-1 derby victory over Leeds United in October 17.

But the powerful and quick forward, bought very much as a long-term project by the Millers, has found opportunities hard to come by in the second half of the season, with Evans opting for the experience of Matt Derbyshire and Conor Sammon.

The striker has scored three goals in 14 appearances for Rotherham this term.

On singing Clarke-Harris, Dickov said: “Jonson is a very good player and someone I’ve tried to sign twice before. He’s strong, quick and powerful with a great eye for goal.

“He’s definitely someone the fans will take to because of his pace, work rate and desire to do well.

“I think he’ll compliment the players we’ve already got at the club and we’re all excited for him to get going.”

Clarke-Harris spent a short loan spell at MK Dons earlier this year and Rovers will become the fourth club he has represented this season.

The arrival of Leicester-born Clarke-Harris will plug the gap after loan forward Uche Ikpeazu returned to Watford earlier this week, having struggled to make an impression at Rovers, failing to score in seven appearances.

Clarke-Harris netted for Oldham in their 2-0 triumph at the Keepmoat on August 30.
