The 20-year-old forward was brought in by Rovers on loan for the rest of the season with a view to a possible permanent move on January 28 after being tracked by manager Paul Dickov for some time.

But the big frontman has struggled to make an impression in South Yorkshire, failing to find the net in seven appearances.

Ikpeazu, who caught Dickov’s eye in a loan spell earlier this season against Crewe, made three starts for Rovers, having scored against the South Yorkshire outfit in the Alex’s 1-1 draw at the end of November.

But his last five appearances for the club came off the substitutes bench.

Ikpeazu arrived at Rovers at the end of January after he was recalled from his previous loan spell at Crewe.

This came just days after he committed his future to the Cheshire club for the rest of the season, only to be surprisingly recalled and switched to Doncaster.
