Doncaster Rovers outcast Harry Forrester prepares to make switch to Rangers

The former Brentford player, out of contract at the Keepmoat Stadium in the summer, has reportedly spoken with officials in Glasgow ahead of a medical and he is expected to sign a short-term deal which will be officially confirmed when the transfer window opens tomorrow.

Forrester has previously worked with Rangers boss Mark Warburton during his time at Brentford and at the start of his career when he was on the books of Watford and Warburton was the youth-team coach at Vicarage Road.

The Milton-Keynes-born player, who turns 25 on Saturday, has only featured twice under Ferguson, with his last appearance coming way back on October 27 when he came on in the 2-0 defeat to Millwall.

Forrester has had just 71 minutes of game time under Ferguson and has not been involved at all in his match-day plans this month.

Ferguson is currently working towards bringing in another forward during the January transfer window to boost competition, with Curtis Main still injured.

But the Scot is mindful of the need for move on ‘two or three’ squad players before bringing in a new addition, with Forrester’s departure likely to be the first.

Ferguson remains confident of converting loan defender Craig Alcock’s move into a permanent move, with the Cornishman down the pecking order at Sheffield United with loan extensions for the rest of the season also agreed with Everton pair Conor Grant and Filipe Mattioni.

The latter suffered a fresh hamstring strain ahead of Monday’s game at Oldham and Ferguson will check on his fitness before a deal is rubber-stamped.
