Doncaster Rovers v Gillingham: Dickov seeks solution to home goal drought

DONCASTER ROVERS’ wretched run of one win at the Keepmoat since March 22 may be the most alarming of statistics – but another one is not far behind.

Namely their haul of just five league goals on home soil this season, the joint worst in the Football League along with Sheffield Wednesday and Yeovil.

It is a major reason for their toils at home with strikers Curtis Main, Theo Robinson and Nathan Tyson having scored a collective two goals at the Keepmoat this term – their combined tally away from home is a more healthy 11.

Paul Dickov says Rovers are working frantically at finding an in-house solution, while admitting he cannot shy away from their alarming vital statistics.

Dickov, whose side host Gillingham today, said: “It has been an issue and there is no getting away from it. We sat down and spoken at length about the home form and that it something I will keep to myself.

“But it needs to pick up. With our last two home games, we should have won the Sheffield United game and we should also have won the other night.

“So we are not far away, but we need to start taking our away form and the way we are playing with creating chances and scoring goals, winning games and not getting beat and bringing that back here.

“You look at the games and Notts County scored with their first shot on goal in the second half and Sheffield United scored with their first shot on target in the second half. Sometimes when things go against you, those things tend to happen.

“But that is something we cannot play on and we have to be mentally strong and go out there and take the performances we have had away from home and play the football we can play in front of our home fans. Our fans, as we are, are desperate to see us perform here.”
