Doncaster v Barnsley: Familiar face Wabara back to inflict pain on Doncaster

The full-back swapped life under Paul Dickov for Lee Johnson’s Barnsley in the summer, and has been a key performer for the Reds.

Victory today could nudge Barnsley towards the top six, and leave Rovers – under caretaker-manager Rob Jones – stranded in the bottom four.

Former Manchester City youngster Wabara knows most of the Doncaster squad, but will show no mercy today on his return to the Keepmoat.

“Doncaster haven’t been in the best of form and it is our job to capitalise on that,” said the 22-year-old.

“It’s a bit of a transitional period for them and I know a lot of the players very well, but I’m a Barnsley player now and I want to win.

“I’ve loved every second at the club so far. Now it’s just a case of me trying to keep improving and bettering myself and I feel I’m doing that every week.

“There’s a good team vibe and a good togetherness. If we can continue that and put together some good results it will stand us in good stead for the rest of the season.

“We play some great football and that’s down to the gaffer,” he added. “We can be one of the best sides in the league which is clear to see from the last three performances.”

Today is the first of two Yorkshire derbies inside three days for Barnsley, who also face Bradford City on Tuesday.

Reds boss Johnson watched Doncaster in their midweek draw with Swindon Town.

“They were very good on Tuesday, but low in confidence because of their league position,” he said.

“They’ve got a lot of experienced players at this level and they are a real danger, we will have to be at our best.”
