Goals from Stephen Dobbie, Liam McAlinden and David Ball did the damage, while Rovers could only respond through Nathan Tyson.

The breakthrough came in the 11th minute when Rovers failed to clear a rebound in the box and the ball fell to Dobbie, who smashed the ball into the top corner to give the home side the lead.

But it was not long before the visitors were level.

Again Rovers came back and they went close to equalising for a second time when a weaving run from Coppinger saw him cut the ball back to Jamie McCombe, who struck his effort inches wide.

After the break, Fleetwood twice went close through Dobbie before Ball sealed the game for the home side when he showed neat skill when meeting a low cross by back-heeling the ball into the bottom corner, with Rovers goalkeeper Jed Steer left stranded
