Full-time: Walsall 0-3 Doncaster Rovers

Doncaster Rovers made a confident start to life in League One with a convincing victory.

Rovers dropped out of the Championship last season and Dean Saunders was looking for a positive start from his charges.

And that’s exactly what he got as Chris Brown put Rovers 1-0 ahead after just five minutes.

Then on 26 minutes David Cotterill, their summer signing from Barnsley, doubled the advantage for Saunders’s side with a stunning lob from just inside Walsall’s half.

And the points were on their way back to Doncaster when in the 56th minute Kyle Bennett found the net to make it 3-0.

On his speculative wonder goal Cotterill said: “I saw the keeper off his line and thought why not? It’s probably the best goal I’ve ever scored.”
