Doncaster Rovers slipped to a 1-0 loss at Gillingham in League One.
The game looked to be heading for a draw, untl Jake Hessenthaler broke the deadlock on 66 minutes.
The assistant referee judged his effort had crossed the line, and it was enough to take the Gills top of League One.
Debut-maker Oscar Gobern and Curtis Main both had early chances for Rovers to grab a goal, while Cameron Stewart and Richard Chaplow also went close.
