Leeds and Doncaster face big fines over Yorkshire derby brawl

LEEDS UNITED and Doncaster Rovers have been fined for their part in the brawl that marred the February derby clash between the two clubs.

The trouble erupted at the end of a stormy Elland Road fixture that Leeds won 3-2 courtesy of a stoppage time goal by Luciano Becchio.

Players from both teams clashed in the tunnel immediately after the final whistle and had to be separated by police and stewards.

West Yorkshire Police launched an immediate probe, which meant any action by the Football Association had to wait until that inquiry had taken place.

That ended in July, which allowed the FA to launch their own investigation as the two clubs were charged with “a failure to ensure its players and/or officials conducted themselves in an orderly fashion and/or refrained from provocative behaviour”.

Both clubs admitted the charge but Doncaster requested a personal hearing. The FA have now fined Leeds £25,000 and Rovers £20,000. The two teams have also been warned as to their future conduct.
