Middlesbrough 3 Doncaster Rovers 0: Rovers lacked desire, moans O’Driscoll

Doncaster Rovers lost to Middlesbrough today in their final fixture of the Championship season.

Striker Steve Brooker (ankle) and defender George Friend (hernia) are both missing for Rovers after surgery this week.

Boro striker Scott McDonald returns from a hamstring injury but midfielder Julio Arca has returned to his native Argentina for knee surgery.

Barry Robson’s first-half free-kick ensured a dismal finale to Rovers’ season, with Leroy Lita’s neat finish and debutant Adam Reach’s late goal adding to the South Yorkshire side’s woes.

Disappointed Doncaster boss Sean O’Driscoll admitted his side lacked hunger.

“There was no desire,” he said. “I can’t explain it but we didn’t show the kind of that standards we expect in games.

“I think the important game was last week when we drew with Leicester to ensure we stayed up and I think maybe that was in a few minds that the job was done.

“Whatever the reason it just didn’t happen for us.

“But we have to remember that we have dragged this club kicking and screaming into the Championship in recent years and have stayed there again this year.”
