New posers for Saunders

AS a record of just one defeat in a month vividly illustrates, Doncaster Rovers have clearly become a much harder side to beat as the battle to avoid relegation approaches the final few acts.

This new-found resolve is something that has understandably pleased Rovers manager Dean Saunders, even if it has come at a price – as was underlined during that solitary defeat, Saturday’s 2-1 disappointing reverse at home to Derby County.

Saunders said: “Everybody used to think, ‘We’ll beat Doncaster’. But, all of a sudden, they think, ‘Forget how we are going to play, let’s stop Doncaster’.

“That is what happened on Saturday. Now, we have to get around it.”

Derby’s victory means Rovers go into their third home game in eight days sitting four points from safety.

Saunders added: “There was not too much damage done (on Saturday). The fight is going to go on that bit longer. We have not all of a sudden become a brilliant team from where we were so I have to accept that a defeat is going to happen sometimes. We still have to win five or six games.”

Shelton Martis is set to miss out tonight after being injured in the Derby defeat, Sam Hird the most likely to step into the starting XI.

Last six games: Doncaster Rovers DDWDDL, Millwall LWLWLL.

Last time: Doncaster Rovers 2 Millwall 1; November 6, 2010; Championship.
