No surgery required for Doncaster Rovers striker Sharp

DONCASTER striker Billy Sharp has been diagnosed with ankle ligament damage following a scan but Rovers are confident he will not require surgery.

The forward sustained the injury during Saturday’s 2-1 defeat at Brighton and underwent a scan on Monday.

He will now visit a specialist on Tuesday to assess the level of damage, and club physio John Dickens said: “We will know better the state of play tomorrow (Tuesday) after the specialist has examined him, but I am confident he will not need surgery.

“These are important ligaments, though, and take time to heal.”

Fellow frontman James Hayter suffered a knee injury at Brighton, and Dickens added: “James’ knee was improving over the weekend and I will assess him today (Monday). He has a scan booked in for Tuesday if he needs it.”
