One Direction star to net charity cash with Rovers clash

FOOTBALL mad pop star Louis Tomlinson has announced plans for a charity football match between a Sunday League side he saved from closure and Doncaster Rovers.

The 20-year-old One Direction star stepped in to fund a team he used to play for before he shot to stardom and has lined up a game at the Keepmoat Stadium next month.

More than 15,000 fans are expected to watch Louis, from Doncaster, and his friends from the Three Horseshoes side take on the League One team.

The game is expected to be sold out to One Direction fans from all over the country with the proceeds going to charity.

Louis has already tweeted to his 2.7 million followers on Twitter: “Big news coming soon but all I can say is I’ll be playing football for Three Horseshoes against a Doncaster Rovers team and it’s for charity”.

He added: ”Will tell everyone the date and where to get tickets soon.”

One Direction have taken America by storm and swept the board at the recent MTV video awards.

Louis mother Johannah said: “Louis is having talks with Rovers about the plan. The game is going to be in October but Louis doesn’t want the date released just yet.

“He wants to fill the stadium and the capacity is 15,000. They were originally trying to get a game against the reserve team but now it looks like it could be against the first team.

“Louis is hoping some of the other members of the group will come along. He and Liam both love football and so does Niall but he has to be careful because he doesn’t want to upset the players who usually turn out for the team by packing it full of celebrities.

“If the other group members don’t play they may well be there to support him.”

Louis has been football mad all his life and captained his junior team wen he was a youngster playing for the local Tickhill Junior side.

Mrs Tomlinson added: “Louis used to play every Sunday and train three times a week. He’s really excited because this is a massive project for him. He still loves his football and he wants to make a lot of money for charity.”
