Rovers captain out for rest of season

football: Doncaster defender Rob Jones will miss the rest of the season as he requires a neck operation.

Jones, club captain at the Keepmoat Stadium, has struggled with the injury for almost the entire campaign and has not made an appearance for Rovers since the end of October.

The Sky Bet Championship club were confident the 34-year-old would make his comeback before the end of the season but he suffered a setback on his return to training. An injection failed to remedy the problem and Jones will now require surgery, followed by three months of rest.

Doncaster physio Alex Dalton said: “Rob had a cervical nerve route block injection but unfortunately it has not had the desired effect, which means that he will more than likely have to have a neck operation.

“After this it’s three months complete rest, so we then look to next season for him.”
