The Tigers want to sign the 25-year-old former Monaco forward as Steve Bruce continues to build towards the new season.

A bid of around £1.75m was lodged earlier this week and a statement from Evian, without confirming the club in question is Hull, has revealed that Sagbo will travel to England later this week to discuss terms with a prospective suitor.

The French club said: “Evian Thonon Gaillard FC have authorised Yannick Sagbo to go to England to visit the facilities and meet the leaders of a club, in the case of an eventual transfer.”

Hull fly back from Portugal today at the end of the club’s week-long pre-season tour.

It means Bruce will be on hand to welcome Sagbo and oversee the player’s medical.

Along with wanting to finalise his attacking armoury, the Tigers’ chief remains keen on bringing Stoke midfielder Wilson Palacios to the KC Stadium. The Honduran played under Bruce at Wigan.

Barnsley have signed French defender Jean-Yves M’voto on a two-year deal.

The 24-year-old joins the south Yorkshire club on a free transfer after opting to leave Oldham Athletic at the end of last season.

M’voto had been expected to sign for neighbours Doncaster Rovers after featuring in the majority of the pre-season friendlies played by Paul Dickov’s men.

However, Barnsley made a late bid for the former Sunderland and Paris St Germain defender who made 123 appearances for Oldham.

Explaining his decision, M’voto said: “I heard about the move a couple of days ago. I had a talk with the Manager, I like his project and everything he said. I just wanted to come to Barnsley.”

Aaron Mclean, told he is surplus to requirements at Hull, is understood to have been training with Barnsley this week. The striker has a little under a year remaining on his KC deal.
