Scunthorpe United v Doncaster Rovers: Rovers aim to extend proud record at Iron

Not just because of the obvious kudos of claiming a derby win either, but moreso due to Rovers’ amazing record over the Iron over the past two decades.

Rovers make the short journey across the A18 seeking to extend their unbeaten streak against their neighbours to eight matches, having completed the double over them in the last two seasons they have locked horns.

Glanford Park is also arguably Rovers’ favourite away destination, having lost just once in their past 12 outings there since the early 1990s, with the club recording some famous wins along the way.

Seeking another chapter to Rovers’ story at Iron, manager Paul Dickov said: “It’s a great game for us to try and get ourselves back on track and give something back to the fans after last week.

“I don’t take any joy or credit in saying I was embarrassed or the players should have done this and that (at Walsall) because I want to say how hard we have worked when we do not justify ourselves. We have to get things out of our system quickly because otherwise it will reflect on the club.”

Dickov’s opposite number, Russ Wilcox, was a huge favourite during his time as a centre-half at Rovers and is well aware of the hosts’ horror run against Doncaster and is desperate for that to change.

Wilcox, who played in Rovers’ record 5-0 success at Glanford Park in April, 1995, when Micky Norbury scored a hat-trick, said: “I live in Doncaster, I know it is a big game. We have also got a few lads who are based there, so we want the bragging rights for our supporters.”
