Stevenage 1 Doncaster Rovers 2 - Late Jones winner ensures glee for Rovers

A STOPPAGE-TIME header from captain fantastic Rob Jones saw Doncaster Rovers make it a club record 12 league games on the road without defeat as they took the spoils at Broadhall Way.

Joint caretaker boss Jones, sharing the managerial duties with Brian Flynn following the exit of Dean Saunders to Wolves, led by example for the visitors, powerfully heading in David Cotterill’s corner to seal three valuable points for Rovers, on a day in which Yorkshire promotion rivals Sheffield United lost.

The last-gasp strike from Jones ensured the Keepmoat Stadium outfit keep level on points with leaders Tranmere Rovers, who remain ahead of Rovers just on goal difference.

But Rovers, who have tasted defeat just once in League One away from home this term, had to do it the hard way after falling behind on 66 minutes.

Stevenage, without a win in their home previous home games, looked likely taking a noteworthy scalp when James Dunne blasted home a fierce 20-yarder after Greg Tansey’s corner.

But Rovers dug deep with Iain Hume drawing them level 11 minutes from time with a close-range strike.

The final word belonged to Jones, who has made no secret of his desire to enter management following his playing days, with the giant stopper netting in the fourth minute of added-on time.
