The Aston Villa full-back is in his second temporary spell at the Keepmoat Stadium, having appeared for the club last season, making 14 appearances.

Stevens, 24, signed on the dotted line for Rovers on an emergency one-month loan and his spell will now be extended ahead of his initial month finishing on Monday.

Stevens spent a stint at Northampton Town earlier this term and has started Rovers’ last five games.

Dickov said: “We have spoken to Aston Villa. His loan runs out on Monday, but hopefully he will sign the forms today or tomorrow.”

Stevens is one of four doubts ahead of Saturday’s FA Cup tie with former club Oldham Athletic with James Coppinger, Paul Keegan and Nathan Tyson also not training today.

One man who is fit is Kyle Bennett, with Dickov praising his recent performances in his pre-match press conference.
