Dickov commented: “They’re probably the form team in the division, winning the last five games.

“I thought the boys were fantastic with the effort and the desire to get the result, and I thought tactically the players were fantastic.

“We changed the system slightly. Defensively we had to be really sound but we believed we had the players to hit them on the break and I don’t think many teams will come here and create the chances we created.”

Robinson put Rovers ahead after referee Kevin Johnson had pointed to the spot when Dean Furman was brought down by Jordan Turnbull as he chased James Coppinger’s through ball.

Robinson stepped up confidently to drill the ball into the bottom left corner, giving Wes Foderingham no chance.

Johnstone saved a 79th-minute penalty after Reece Wabara was penalised for appearing to haul down Andy Williams, who was attempting to claim a high cross.

Substitute Michael Smith stepped up and fired low to Johnstone’s left but he got down well to save.
