Training ground work pays dividends for Blades’ Davies

The utility man fired in six minutes from time and revealed that extra shooting practice at the club’s Shirecliffe training base has reaped immediate dividends.

He said: “I stayed back with Jose (Baxter) on Monday with Andy Garner for about 40 minutes and did some finishing and thankfully we were the two who scored.

“They say the harder you work, the luckier you get and it was definitely the case at Peterborough.

“But I thought for the whole of the second-half, we played well.”

On his key strike, he added: “I caught it sweet and as soon as it left my left-foot, I thought it was a goal.”

Barnsley manager Danny Wilson is confident that Devante Cole will prove an exciting acquisition after he made his debut from the bench in the 2-2 draw at Coventry.

The Manchester City forward, son of ex-Manchester United and Newcastle United frontman Andy, has joined the Reds on loan until January.

Wilson said: “I am hoping it’s a very exciting move. You could see little flashes of what he is. He is very pacy and direct and gets at defenders.

“He puts players on the back foot and can ease a lot of pressure at times. But there’s more to his game than that. Let’s hope we can develop him.”
