Watford v Doncaster Rovers: Pressure is off, claims Rovers chief Dickov

The experienced Championship campaigners emerged victorious at Rotherham United last Tuesday night, giving the Championship newcomers a harsh lesson in how to win football matches in the second tier.

Then, on Saturday, Watford swatted aside Leeds United, a victory that sent the Elland Road club spiralling back into chaos.

As a League One outfit, Doncaster appear to represent the easiest of the three challenges, but the Hornets should be mindful of Rovers’ strong away form.

They have won all three games they have played on the road this season, without conceding a goal.

Asked to explain the reasons, manager Paul Dickov said: “I don’t know what it is, but I’m quite liking it,” before adding: “It’s about being solid, having a good shape and being hard to break down.

“Going forward we have players who can hurt teams, especially away from home when the onus is on our opponents to come and attack us.

“It leaves gaps for people like James Coppinger and Kyle Bennett to exploit.

“We know it will be tough but the pressure is off, especially after winning on Saturday.”

Dickov may make changes as a number of his players who did not have a pre-season are starting to feel the effects of playing Saturday and Tuesday every week.
