Double delight at Doncaster Rovers after leading lights sign new deals

DONCASTER ROVERS have been handed another big boost with the news that the influential duo of team captain James Coppinger and club captain Andy Butler have signed one-year contract extensions to keep them at the club until the summer of 2018.

The pair have been rewarded for their outstanding form for Rovers, seven points at the top of League Two, with the developments further adding to the palpable feel-good factor at the Keepmoat Stadium.

Coppinger, who turned 36 earlier this month, has been at Rovers since 2004, and holds the club record for appearances.

On his extended deal, he said: “I never thought I would be here 13 years on, but I feel in really good condition - I feel better than when I was younger, which sounds a little silly - but I am enjoying it and offering something to the team.

“I have played 40 games a season for the past 16 years, and in pre-season I was as fit as anybody in the team, so it is looking good for the next couple of years.

“I have as much hunger now as when I was 21, if not more.”

Doncaster-born Butler has expressed similar delight in extending his time with Rovers and believes that the club are on the up and firmly ‘going places.’

He said: “It’s great to be part of this club because it is going places now, everyone has bought into what the gaffer is trying to do.

“I am a Doncaster lad, so it is brilliant for me. The club is on the up and going places, and I’m proud to be part of that. Everyone has bought into what the gaffer wants.”
