HUDDERSFIELD TOWN head coach Carlos Corberan has suffered a further double blow to compound the Terriers' crippling injury count ahead at a critical time in the club’s season.

Christopher Schindler has suffered a setback in his recovery from a knee problem sustained in December and is seeing a specialist to see if he requires surgery.

That worse-case scenario could potentially mean that he has played his last game for the club, with the German out of contract in the summer.

Meanwhile, another setback will see Rolando Aarons miss Saturday’s key game with Wycombe after picking up a hamstring injury in training, which is likely to sideline him for a few weeks.

Danny Ward’s comeback from injury has also been delayed for a further week.

On Schindler, Corberan, whose side are yet to win in 2021 and are without a victory in their past seven matches in all competitions, said: “Unfortunately, his recovery progress was not working in the way we expected it to work.

“He is suffering some pain now and we have made the decision for him to see the specialist again to see if he needs some surgery or if he does not need it. It is one situation where we cannot confirm anything yet. We need to analyse to see if he needs a solution with surgery.

“He has been one of the most important players while he has been at the club and in the team. He participated by scoring the penalty in the year of promotion to the Premier League, if you analyse the minutes, you see how important he was for the squad and the club.

"He has also been important for the dressing room. This year is not going in the way we wanted - and for the club and staff. But we have to accept the situation and see what the opinion is.”

Providing an update on Ward and Richard Stearman, he continued: “It is one delayed week for his (Ward’s) recovery to training because with the medical staff, he feels some issue in his recovery.

“We expect to come back next Monday (week). We know he is a difficult moment as he wants to be ready for the team.

“Stearman has had a positive week. He has not trained all the week, but at the same time, he has started to work with the team and his progress has been positive.”

Meanwhile, Sorba Thomas, a recruit from National League outfit Boreham Wood, is likely to be provided with a window of opportunity following Aaron’s untimely injury blow.

Corberan added: “He is one of the attacking options we are looking at now. I hope he get add a lot of positive things to the team; a lot of energy, desire and help the team and add balance.

“Rolando suffered an injury two days ago in training, he felt something in the hamstring and I don’t expect to have him in the next (few) weeks.

“It is painful when you have injury in training. In the last action.”

Corberan confirmed that midfielder Lewis O'Brien will switch to left back to cover for the suspended Harry Toffolo on Saturday.

Alongside the absent Toffolo, Schindler and Stearman, Town are also without fellow defenders Rarmani Edmonds-Green and Tommy Elphick.

Carel Eiting and Josh Koroma are also sidelined.
