Dream come true for young Hull City star Josh Tymon

AN afternoon that began with much of the talk surrounding the possible impact of a fans' boycott ended with Josh Tymon finding the net in Hull City colours for the first time since he was 13 years old.

It was an appropriately eventful and unexpected end to a week that had seen the Tigers sack Mike Phelan and turn to Marco Silva, a relative unknown in English football despite an impressive reputation on the continent. For Tymon, it was also a dream come true.

“The new manager is very tactical,” said the 17-year-old, whose previous goal for Hull had come in an Under-13s tournament in Holland.

“He likes to get in among the players and put his stamp on how we are playing, how we are passing and how we are defending set-pieces. Even though it is only two days, he has put his spin on it.”

Saturday’s attendance of 6,608 was almost 10,000 down on last season’s League Cup meeting between the two clubs as fans registered their dismay at how the home club is being run.

Poor recruitment is one complaint and the thin nature of Hull’s squad was illustrated by Tom Huddlestone and Jake Livermore ending the tie in the centre of defence, with David Meyler, another midfielder, at right-back.

Michael Dawson landing awkwardly on his shoulder after an aerial challenge caused Huddlestone to be moved into the back four, but Silva believes Hull’s captain may yet be available for tomorrow’s League Cup semi-final first leg against Manchester United along with Curtis Davies and Harry Maguire after the injured duo missed the Swansea game.
