Dream move to top flight is sealed by Pilkington

Premier League newcomers Norwich have confirmed winger Anthony Pilkington has become their sixth summer signing after the club agreed an undisclosed fee with Huddersfield Town.

The 23-year-old will sign a three-year deal after successfully completing a medical and subject to the relevant paperwork being completed.

The former Stockport player said the transfer – believed to be worth £2m for the Terriers – had been on the cards for some time and he was looking forward to testing himself in the Premier League.

“It’s been in the pipeline for about a week or so now and I’m absolutely delighted to make the move having passed my medical,” he said. “It’s great to get down here. The Premier League is the best league in the world. When you’re a boy you dream of playing in it one day.”

Norwich manager Paul Lambert has been busy in the transfer market as he looks to build a squad capable of staying in the top flight.

Combative midfielder Bradley Johnson arrived last week from Leeds on a free transfer adding to the purchases of striker James Vaughan from Everton, winger Elliott Bennett from Brighton and young Belgian defender Ritchie de Laet on loan from Manchester United.

The Norwich boss has no doubts Pilkington can make the step up from League One.

“I am sure Anthony will be a big player for us, there is no doubt, and I am delighted to be able to welcome him to the club,” Lambert said.

“He was great for Huddersfield in his time there and he will add to the team for the season ahead.

“He is a top lad and he has a real enthusiasm for the game.”
