Ebbsfleet United 1 York City 0: Brodie sees red for Minstermen

YORK City manager Martin Foyle and the Bootham Crescent board of directors apologised to hosts Ebbsfleet after the Minstermen's top scorer, Richard Brodie, was sent off.

Brodie was red-carded for landing an elbow on Dean Pooley midway through the second half as the Minstermen fell to their first league defeat since October 31.

The home midfield man required five stitches to a head wound and received 10 minutes of treatment before returning to the pitch and helping the Kent club protect their 1-0 lead.

About Brodie's dismissal, a disappointed Foyle said: "It will be dealt with internally.

"He's not a malicious lad but he's led with his elbow and cut their lad's head. Other than that, I don't want to make any further comment."

Brodie, who has netted 27 times in 2009-10, is due to miss tomorrow night's home match with Luton, Saturday's FA Trophy quarter-final at Barrow and the league trip to Mansfield three days later.

Ebbsfleet forward Moses Ashikodi scored the only goal of a dour game at Stonebridge Road.

The Minstermen complained that James Meredith was fouled in the build-up to Ashikodi's strike that saw visiting goalkeeper Michael Ingham beaten from a narrow angle but referee Marvin Thompson allowed the goal to stand.

York substitutes Courtney Pitt and Michael Gash went closest to snatching a point for the 10 men.

Pitt saw his curling free kick tipped over by Ebbsfleet goalkeeper Lance Cronin and Gash headed wide from inside the six-yard box.

Ebbsfleet United: Cronin, Heeroo, Crooks, Charles, Easton (Collins 7), Shakes, Pooley, Holmes, Bailey, Ashikodi (Ginty, 85), Vieira. Unused substitutes: West, Welsh, Wills.
