Eerie first view from the boundary edge led to an enduring fascination

TOMORROW’S Cup tie may not have been selected for live transmission, the Holy Grail for all non-League clubs once in the first round.

But the two clubs have been featured on television before when the ITV Big Match cameras made their one and only visit to Park Avenue to show extended footage of Rovers’ visit on December 21, 1968.

Bradford were bottom of Division Four, a position they had also occupied at the end of the previous season. Rovers, meanwhile, were destined to win the title that season but it was Avenue who ran out winners thanks to goals from Derek Draper and Glen Andrews in front of a 3,911 crowd. The highlights, complete with commentary from Danny Blanchflower, were shown at 2.30pm the following day.
