AFTER what seems to many Leeds United supporters to have been another season wasted, there are - quite reasonably - grounds for optimism at Elland Road ahead of the 2016-17 Championship campaign.

The appointment of a young and ambitious Garry Monk as manager has already lifted spirits among many of the club’s fans, with the arrival of Swedish forward Marcus Antonsson earlier this week adding to the feelgood factor.

It can only be hoped that the new season brings less confusion and more stability - both on and off the pitch.

The at times tortuous 2015-16 campaign produced two head coaches, another Football League ban for owner Massimo Cellino, sporadic protests from fans wanting a different owners and an unprecedented run-in with the great and the good at Sky Sports.

In between there was plenty of football which, after 46 games, left Leeds halfway up the final table or - depending on your point of view - halfway down.
