Fantasy Premier League: Gameweek 14 Preview – Captain Picks, “Who’s hot, Who’s not?” and Ones To Watch

It’s the war of the Roses when Man United host Leeds but Crystal Palace and Liverpool kick off the gameweek in the early Saturday kick-off. The transfer deadline is on Saturday 19th December at 11am.

Captain Picks

Bruno Fernandes (£11.0m) vs Leeds (H)

Since keeping clean sheets against Arsenal and Everton in November, Leeds have conceded seven goals across their last three games.

Man United on the other hand have scored three goals in all but one of their last four league games, so Man United could do well going forward. On penalties, free kicks and corners, as well as the team’s most shots, Bruno Fernandes is integral to the Man United attack and is this week’s stand out captain pick.

Mo Salah (£12.4m) vs Crystal Palace (A)

Averaging almost a goal and an assist every time he plays Crystal Palace, you can trust Mo Salah with the armband this week. Across the four games he’s played against the South London side, he’s scored four and assisted thrice.

The Egyptian is in great form too, having scored in his last three games including an important opening goal against Tottenham on Wednesday.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin (£7.9m) vs Arsenal (H)

If you are playing it safe this week, this Yorkshire striker is your man! Calvert-Lewin has scored or assisted in all but two games this season and playing an out of form Arsenal team shows more signs of encouragement.

The Gunners are second bottom in the form table, having drawn two and lost three of their last five league games. The last time these teams met, unsurprisingly Calvert-Lewin scored.

Marcus Rashford (Man United, £9.4m)

For £1.6m less than Fernandes, Rashford is an alternative route into the Man United attack. Over his last four league games he scored three goals, assisted once and taken as many shots as Bruno with four more of them being in the box.

This shows Rashford plays a more advanced role for a cheaper price.

Pedro Neto (Wolves, £5.8m)

No Wolves player has taken more shots or created more chances than Neto over the last four gameweeks, showing that he has the threat and creativity needed to be a great Fantasy asset. His world class winner against Chelsea on Tuesday showed you what he is capable of.

Although Wolves have tough games against Burnley, Tottenham and Man United, Wolves fans will be encouraged to know that they are unbeaten against these teams the last time they played them.

The Form Guide - Who’s Not?

Timo Werner (Chelsea, £9.4m)

With no goals in his five most recent league games, patience with the German is wearing thin. Bought as a striker, Lampard has been playing Werner as a left winger, which hasn’t helped him find goals. In contrast, Olivier Giroud who plays down the middle, has taken two more shots than Werner over the last four gameweeks despite playing 94 fewer minutes and being £2.7m cheaper.

Max Kilman (Wolves, £4.2m)

After a clean sheet, assist and twelve points against Leeds in gameweek five, Kilmen’s ownership soared from 130,000 to 1,000,000 in three short weeks.

Since gameweek ten however ,Kilman hasn’t played a minute of Premier League football – no minutes equals no points and for that reason alone I’d be tempted to transfer him out.

Ones to Watch (Less than 5% ownership)

Richarlison (Everton, £7.8m, 4.3%)

For similar reasons to Calvert-Lewin, Richarlison has the stats and fixtures for every Fantasy manager to watch.

Priced at £0.1m less than Calvert-Lewin, the Brazilian has had two more shots on target, four chances and created three more chances than the Yorkshireman across the last four gameweeks.

Eric Dier (Tottenham, £5.0m, 4.3%)

As Tottenham’s cheapest starting defender, Dier is a great way into the Tottenham defence whilst keeping an eye on your budget.

He has played 90 minutes in all but one league game this season and in the game that he did miss, Spurs uncharacteristically conceded three goals.

He also takes the occasional free kick so could provide the odd attacking return too.

Transfers

After picking your initial squad, you receive 1 free transfer each Gameweek. Each additional transfer you make in the same Gameweek will deduct 4 points from your score.

If you do not use your free transfer, you are able to make an additional free transfer the following Gameweek. If you do not use this saved free transfer in the following Gameweek, it will be carried over until you do. You can never have more than 1 saved transfer.

For example, since you get 1 free transfer per gameweek, if you make no transfers between gameweeks, you will have 2 free transfers in preparation for the next gameweek. You will incur a 4 point hit per transfer over your free transfer allowance.

Point Scoring

During the season, your fantasy football players will be allocated points based on their performance in the Premier League. Remember, every week your captain scores double points, so pick them wisely!

Points Action

1 For playing up to 60 minutes

2 For playing 60 minutes or more (excluding stoppage time)

6 For each goal scored by a goalkeeper or defender

5 For each goal scored by a midfielder

4 For each goal scored by a forward

3 For each goal assist

4 For a clean sheet by a goalkeeper or defender

1 For a clean sheet by a midfielder

1 For every 3 shot saves by a goalkeeper

5 For each penalty save

-2 For each penalty miss

1 to 3 Bonus points for the best players in a match

-1 For every 2 goals conceded by a goalkeeper or defender

-1 For each yellow card
