Fantasy Premier League: Gameweek 28 Preview – Captain pick, “Who’s hot, who’s not?” and Ones To Watch

A truncated Premier League programme due to the Carabao Cup final between Man City and Aston Villa on Sunday, pkaces even greater importance on team selection this weekend.

Man City’s league game vs Arsenal and Aston Villa’s game vs Sheffield United have both been postponed until later on in the season.

These four teams therefore do NOT have a game this week! Gameweek 28 deadline: Friday 28th February at 19:00 GMT. Follow John (@Gameweek38 on twitter) for more FPL insight.

Mo Salah (£12.8m) or Sadio Mane (£12.4m) vs Watford (A)

It may be a tad repetitive but Mo Salah and Sadio Mane continue to be fantastic captaincy options. This week they travel to Watford who sit nineteenth in the table and have conceded nine goals in

their last four league games. Salah scored twice against the Hornets in a flawless 2-0 win earlier in the season and will top the league’s top scoring charts with another brace on Saturday.

Jamie Vardy (£9.7m) vs Norwich (A)

Although he’s goalless in 2020, Jamie Vardy remains the game’s top scoring forward and Leicester’s focal point up front. He’s had four shots over his last two games and has had fourteen more shots on target than Leicester’s second-most threatening player throughout the season. This week’s opponents are Norwich, who have only kept two clean sheets in their last sixteen games so you’d imagine that Vardy will have the opportunity break his unfortunate streak.

Tammy Abraham (£7.6m) vs Bournemouth (A)

Another out of form striker with a promising fixture this week is Tammy Abraham. Although he has competition for his spot up front from Olivier Giroud, Lampard has shown continued trust in the Englishman. Chelsea play Bournemouth this week who sit sixteenth in the table and have kept one clean sheet in their last sixteen league games. Once again, it would be safe to assume that Abraham will get chances to end his barren spell.

Bruno Fernandes (Man United, £8.2m)

Bruno is quickly becoming one of fantasy football’s hot properties. In his first three games in the Premier League, he has racked up one goal, two assists and Man United’s penalty duties. As a result, his stock has risen so high that he’s in more people’s teams than Mahrez, Alli and Pepe. Next three games: Everton, Man City and Tottenham.

Patrick van Aanholt (Crystal Palace, £5.5m)

With a 15-point haul last week and games vs Brighton, Watford and Bournemouth on the horizon, PVA has all the qualities you’d look for in a premium FPL defender. No Palace player has created more chances than the left-back in the last four gameweeks and he’s on set-piece duties. He has a habit of performing well in the latter stages of the season so it may be worth bringing him in now while the iron is hot.

Diogo Jota (Wolves, £6.2m)

Although Raul Jimenez is the most popular Wolves forward, Jota is by far the most in form. In his last two games in all competitions, he’s bagged himself five goals and an assist courtesy of a shot deflecting off the post. Due to dropping out of the FA Cup, Wolves are in the minority of teams who are confirmed to have a fixture in gameweek 31 which should make him an attractive option, especially for such a low price.

The Form Guide - Who’s Not?

Adama Traore (Wolves, £5.9m)

After a promising Christmas period, Traore’s form has uncharacteristically slowed down. Although he’s played in Wolves’ last four league games, he’s only contributed one assist which is disappointing. His form may change though, as after a tough game away to Tottenham this week, Wolves play Brighton, West Ham then Bournemouth.

Jack Grealish (Aston Villa, £6.7m)

This week’s blank may prompt Grealish owners into an early sale – and for good reason. After no game this week, the Villains travel to Leicester before hosting Chelsea, which will both be tough games to score points in. He isn’t in great form either as he’s only provided one assist in the last four games.

Ones to Watch (Less than 5% ownership)

Reece James (Chelsea, £5.0m, 0.9%)

Having started Chelsea’s last three league games and Tuesday’s Champions League clash vs Bayern Munich, James is proving to be Lampard’s first choice right back and is therefore seemingly nailed on to start this weekend. In his last two games, the twenty year-old has whipped in twelve crosses and taken four shots which is incredibly encouraging. Next three games: Bournemouth, Everton and Aston Villa.

Harvey Barnes (Leicester, £6.0m, 3.0%)

With five starts in Leicester’s last six league games, Barnes is fast becoming the Foxes’ go-to left winger. Over the last four gameweeks, Barnes has taken more shots in the box than any other Leicester player, has had the highest expected goal involvement and created five chances. Next three games: Norwich, Aston Villa and Watford.

Romain Saiss (Wolves, £4.5m, 2.1%)

Priced at £4.5m, Saiss is Wolves’ cheapest regular defender and a constant attacking threat from set- pieces. He’s picked up two goals and two assists so far this season. Although he’s a yellow card magnet, the Moroccan has taken the joint second most shots in the box in the league for a defender over the last four gameweeks, once again showing his attacking potential.
