Fantasy Premier League: Gameweek 35+ Preview – Get Jamie Vardy, Danny Ings and Mo Salah in your line-up

The games are thick and fast, which means a hectic time picking your Fantasy Premier League team. Here’s our Fantasy writer John Mount to bring you all the hints and tips for Gameweek 35+

After predictable wins for Liverpool, Man City and Man United this week, from a fantasy standpoint it was a mixed bag. Kevin De Bruyne only managed six points from and a solitary assist in City’s 5-0 Newcastle demolition whereas Mo Salah returned to form with an eighteen point haul from two goals and an assist in their 3-1 win against Brighton.

Selecting the right captain in these last few games will dictate your final rank and with none of the top six playing each other this week, there are a lot of options to choose from before Saturday’s 11.30am transfer deadline.

Captain Picks

Mo Salah (£12.5m) vs Burnley (H)

After scoring twice and providing an assist in Liverpool’s 3-1 in Brighton on Wednesday, captaining Salah will be a popular choice this weekend as the Reds host Burnley – an opponent they beat 3-0 earlier in the season. Salah scored six points in that game and will be expected to gain more points this weekend as the Egyptian looks to be back to his best. Over the last four gameweeks, no player has taken more shots or had more shots on target than him. Salah has the track record, form and favourable fixture this week to make him the outstanding captaincy choice.

Jamie Vardy (£9.8m) vs Bournemouth (H)

With three goals in two games, it’s no coincidence that Vardy’s form directly correlates with Leicester’s recent resurgence. Over the last two gameweeks, the Yorkshireman’s taken seven shots in the box and had eight chances from open play which is more than any player in the league. This week he faces Bournemouth who have the worst defensive form in the league as the Cherries have conceded 12 goals in their last five games. The last time these teams met, Leicester came away as 3- 1 winners with Vardy scoring twice and assisting once in the process. If you think history will repeat itself, then the Leicester striker is the clear favourite for your team’s captaincy.

Marcus Rashford (£9.0m) vs Southampton (H)

Although he’s only scored once since the restart, I think Rashford is a great outside shout for the captain’s armband this week. He and Fernandes seem to be alternating penalty duties so following Bruno’s strike on Thursday, Rashford is up next. Operating from the left wing, Marcus is not only a goal threat as seven goals in his last two games would suggest, but he is a provider too, as no Man United player has created more ‘big chances’ over the same time period.

Danny Ings (Southampton, £7.4m)

Having scored four goals since the restart, Danny Ings remains in the race for the golden boot. Saints’ manager Ralph Hasenhuttl says he will start Ings in every game until the end of the season to help him chase the accolade. With eight chances from open play and nine shots in the box over the last four gameweeks, it looks like his teammates are doing their part to help too. Next three games: Man United, Brighton and Bournemouth.

Michail Antonio (West Ham, £6.9m)

Once again, Antonio makes the list as favourable fixtures swing his way. West Ham face Norwich and Watford next, and wins in these games will all but secure their place in the Premier League next season. Although he blanked in his game vs Burnley on Wednesday, only Salah had more shots in the box last gameweek and no West Ham player created more chances or had more touches in the opposition’s penalty area.

Serge Aurier (Tottenham, £5.1m)

It took Tottenham 23 games to record their first three clean sheets this season, but since the restart they have kept three clean sheets in their last five games. As Jose Mourinho continues to work his defensive magic, Serge Aurier has been thriving. He is Spurs’ cheapest starting defender and most attacking too, with one goal and seven assists this season. With 28 points over his last five games, Aurier continues to provide the points you’d hope for from an attacking full-back. Next three games: Arsenal, Newcastle and Leicester.

Ones to Watch (Less than 5% ownership)

James Justin (Leicester, £4.7m, 0.6%)

With six consecutive starts, Justin has become the default Leicester right back as Ricardo Pereira remains sidelined. As a result, he’s Leicester’s cheapest starting defender and with games against Bournemouth and Sheffield United on the horizon, you’d back him to add to his two clean sheets since lockdown.

Ross Barkley (Chelsea, £5.6m, 1.7%)

Since regaining a spot in Frank Lampard’s starting line-up, Chelsea have won three out of their last four games including a 3-0 win against Watford where Ross Barkley stole the show. The Liverpudlian scored once and assisted once on that day, netting himself 13 points in the process. After being subbed off on 64 minutes against Crystal Palace this week, he will be expected to start against Sheffield United this week as Chelsea continue to fight for a Champions League spot.

Jarrod Bowen (West Ham, £6.4m, 0.2%)

Since making his deadline day move from Hull City in January, Bowen has cemented his place on West Ham’s right wing. Over the last four gameweeks he’s provided three assists and no Hamme has created more chances. Coupled with averaging over two shots per game and a fixture against Norwich this weekend, he has a great chance to haul this week.
