Fantasy Premier League: Gameweek 5 Preview – Captain pick, “Who’s hot, Who’s not?” and Ones To Watch

Fantasy Premier League players, here are your selection tips for Gameweek 5.

After a crazy Gameweek 4, including Villa thrashing Liverpool and Spurs embarrassing Man United, the international break gave us chance to catch our breath following a rock’n’roll start to the season.

Coronavirus news will be important to look out for as players return from international duty so leaving your transfer until as late as possible may be the best solution.

Transfer deadline: Saturday 17th October at 11am.

Captain Picks

Heung-Min Son (£9.1m) vs West Ham (H)

With nothing to worry about regarding social bubbles, travel or jet lag, Son is this week’s prime captain pick not only because he’s the highest scoring player in the game but because he should be fresh after having a week at Spurs’ training ground rather than being on international duty.

Who's Hot - Aston Villa's Jack Grealish (Picture: PA)Who's Hot - Aston Villa's Jack Grealish (Picture: PA)

With six goals and one assist across his first four games this season, there’s a good chance for the South Korean to add to his tally this weekend as he plays West Ham who are traditionally a lower-half team.

Mo Salah (£12.3m) vs Everton (A)

Even though he has only one goal in three appearances against league leaders Everton, you can never write Salah off.

Five goals and one assist across the first four league games proves his worth and with Sadio Mane having to isolate recently, there will be more pressure on the Egyptian to perform. Salah’s penalties may prove to be crucial as the Merseyside derby is expected to be closer than ever following Everton’s strong start.

Harry Kane (£10.6m) vs West Ham (H)

With a favourable fixture, penalty duties and nine goal involvements across his first four games, Kane is showing great form under Mourinho and with the addition of Bale, he should get even more chances to score goals.

Over the 12 times he’s faced West Ham throughout his career, he’s scored nine goals and provided one assist, ticking another box of the captain criteria.

Jack Grealish (Aston Villa, £7.1m)

With a blank in gameweek one, Grealish was understandably overlooked at the start of the season but with three goals and three assists across his first three league games, including a 24 pointer vs Liverpool last week, the Villa captain’s popularity has sky-rocketed with over 500,000 transfers in for him over the international break.

After Leicester away this weekend, Villa play Leeds and Southampton at home.

Ben Chilwell (Chelsea, £5.6m)

After being out injured for the first three league games, Chilwell marked his Chelsea debut with a goal, an assist, a clean sheet and 18 points as he immediately solidified his place as Chelsea’s left-back.

With weak competition for his spot from Marcos Alonso and Emerson, even if Chilwell isn’t 100% fit, he’s still likely to feature this weekend.

The Form Guide - Who’s Not?

Anthony Martial (Man United, £8.8m)

With only two shots so far this season, Martial’s red card vs Tottenham in gameweek five rubbed salt in the wound for owners who hoped for a strong start.

Suspended until gameweek eight, Martial may struggle to regain a spot in the Man United side as Edinson Cavani will challenge his spot up front.

Reece James (Chelsea, £5.1m)

After a strong start to the season, James’ spot in the Chelsea side is under threat as his communication may not be up to scratch.

It has been confirmed that the Chelsea defence spoke French in their win against Crystal Palace as Mendy, Zouma, Thiago Silva and Azpilicueta can all speak the language. In a convincing win that brought Chelsea’s first clean sheet of the season, Lampard may be reluctant to change his winning formula.

Ones to Watch (Less than 5% ownership)

Leandro Trossard (Brighton, £6.0m, 2.3%)

Leading the way for shots, chances from open play and chances created for Brighton, Trossard is going under the radar in a well organised team.

Having already contributed one goal and two assists this season, the Belgian has a great chance to add to his tally over his next couple of games when he plays Crystal Palace and West Brom.

Sergio Aguero (Man City, £10.4m, 1.3%)

With an outside chance of making the Man City squad vs Arsenal this weekend, Aguero’s return will be a gamechanger for FPL as City are seriously lacking an out and out striker.

Listening to Guardiola’s press conference before the deadline will be vital to gain any insight into the Argentine’s fitness.

Aguero has scored eleven times in fifteen games against Arsenal and then faces West Ham and Sheffield United.

Transfers

After picking your initial squad, you receive 1 free transfer each Gameweek. Each additional transfer you make in the same Gameweek will deduct 4 points from your score.

If you do not use your free transfer, you are able to make an additional free transfer the following Gameweek. If you do not use this saved free transfer in the following Gameweek, it will be carried over until you do. You can never have more than 1 saved transfer.

For example, since you get 1 free transfer per gameweek, if you make no transfers between gameweeks, you will have 2 free transfers in preparation for the next gameweek. You will incur a 4 point hit per transfer over your free transfer allowance.
