The versatile player, 21, who can also operate at centre-back, made a big impression during a loan spell at Ibrox last term, featuring 30 times.

But despite Rangers chief Mark Warburton being keen to bring back to player, Millers manager Alan Stubbs has persuaded Ball to join the Championship outfit on a permanent basis on a three-year deal, according to reports in Scotland.

Stubbs is seeking for further new recruits after signing Celtic full-back Darnell Fisher earlier this week - his eighth capture of the close season.

Stubbs has also raided the Scottish market to sign Falkirk midfielder Will Vaulks and Celtic’s Scott Allan on loan.

Leeds United and Sheffield Wednesday are reportedly tracking Birmingham City midfielder Stephen Gleeson.

The 28-year-old Irishman has been a vital cog in the Blues engine room under Gary Rowett and is on the radar of several second-tier sides including Leeds, Wednesday and Reading.

Speculation that Leeds are up for sale continues with Italian businessman Andrea Radrizzani, one of the founders of £600m-valued global media rights firm MP & Silva, the latest to be linked to the club after joining current owner Massimo Cellino at last weekend’s game against Queens Park Rangers.

Radrizzani, who is now abroad, said: “I don’t have any update to provide related to Leeds. At the moment there is nothing concrete and (only a) simple conversation to understand the club better.”

Cellino’s stake currently stands at more than 80 per cent, an interest owned by his UK firm Eleonora Sport Ltd, and has been in charge for two-and-a-half years.

MP & Silva has attracted substantial investment from two Chinese firms and rumours of other Chinese interest in Leeds surfaced recently when Steve Tappin, a Yorkshire businessman with links to the Far East, said he was aware of parties interested in buying out Cellino.

Brazilian full-back Fabio da Silva is set to seal a £2m move to Middlesbrough today.

The former Manchester United player, 26, is scheduled to take a medical on Teesside today before completing the formalities on a three year switch to the Riverside Stadium from Cardiff City.

Da Silva, 26, was withdrawn from the Bluebirds squad for the League Cup game at Bristol Rovers on Thursday night and travelled to the north-east.

This came after Boro triggered a release clause in his Cardiff contract, with Da Silva missing the Welsh club’s league opener last weekend with a deal agreeing in principle with Boro.

Barnsley have completed the signing of former Paris St-Germain midfielder Sessi D’Almeida on a two-year contract after a successful trial.

D’Almeida was released by PSG at the end of last season after failing to make a first-team appearance - and has now joined the Reds after successfully receiving a work permit.

Newcastle United will look to tie up their loan deal for Everton youngster Brendan Galloway next week. They had hoped to complete their move for the England Under-20 international before the Huddersfield Town game but Everton are still seeking defensive cover.

Huddersfield, who will have a 3,200 following in a sellout crowd of 52,000, are braced for an offer from Derby County for Bermuda striker Nahki Wells, Town’s top scorer for the last two seasons.

Wells has also been linked with Norwich City and with the 26-year-old former Bradford City man contracted to Town until 2018 it would take a bid in the region of the £7m unsuccessful offer Derby made to Sheffield Wednesday for Fernando Forestieri to prise him away.
