The Reds made two changes against a Pompey side docked 10 points for entering administration.

Stephen Foster replaced Matt Done and Jim O’Brien continued to deputise for Michael Tonge, who was injured at Burnley.

Craig Davies struck the bar early on for Barnsley, who lost David Perkins through injury.

Pompey striker Dave Kitson was sent off for a second yellow after a late challenge on Lorry Smith in the 40th minute.

Barnsley finally broke through in the 76th minute as O’Brien curled the ball home from the edge of the area.

Substitute Matt Done wrapped up victory with a breakaway goal in stoppage time.
