Gillingham 0 Hull City 2 - Grant McCann pleased with promising start for Tigers

GRANT McCann was full of praise fof his Hull City players after they started life back down in League One in perfect style with a convincing win at Gillingham.

Keane Lewis-Potter and Josh Magennis ensured the Tigers’ started their first season in League One since 2004-05 in the perfect way.

Grant McCann’s side went in front after just three minutes when Lewis-Potter fired low past Jack Bonham after a piercing run from team-mate Josh Emmanuelinto the box.

But Magennis was not to be denied when he wrapped up a deserved victory for the visitors when he headed Honeyman’s free-kick past Bonham.

“I thought it was a good result, a good performance,” said McCann. “It possibly should have been more, if we were a bit more clinical at the top end of the pitch.

“But I can’t grumble – we’ve come to one of the toughest places in League One in Gillingham, especially the way they play, the way Steve [Evans] gets them playing.

“Today I thought we handled everything they threw at us all game. Apart from one chance they had in the first half from [John] Akinde, I can’t remember too many others.

“I thought we were in control of everything we did and possibly should have come away with more goals.”
