Glennon swaps Town for rivals Bradford

GOALKEEPER Matt Glennon has set his sights on an immediate return to League One after leaving Huddersfield Town for West Yorkshire rivals Bradford City.

Glennon, 31, has joined the Bantams on a free transfer until the end of the season and will make his debut this weekend against Notts County at Valley Parade.

He has not played first-team football since November 2008 due to the emergence of highly-rated youngster Alex Smithies at the Galpharm Stadium but made over 100 appearances for Town and previously played for Hull City and Carlisle United.

Glennon said: "I had opportunities to join teams in Huddersfield's division but they had no aspirations of promotion. I would rather be playing my games at somewhere that has the hope of achieving something.

"You go to some places, that have smaller grounds, and it can be quite depressing but this is a big club and that certainly won't be the case"

Bradford are currently 13th in the League Two table – six points adrift of the play-off zone – but Glennon said: "Six points is nothing at this stage of the season. I have spoken to some of the lads already and they are more than sure that we can get up there. At the end of the day, it's the best thing you can do, try and get promoted, get into the play-offs and then maybe even Wembley. I am sure we can do it here."

Bradford manager Stuart McCall swooped for Glennon after goalkeeper Simon Eastwood returned to Town at the end of a loan deal.

Leeds United are ready to reward winger Bradley Johnson with a new improved deal. Manager Simon Grayson, meanwhile, has released fringe players Jonathan Webb, Josh Falkingham and Ollie Hotchkiss.
