Gossip Column (19/02/16): Bridcutt's Leeds future to depend on Sunderland safety | No Montero for Boro | Huddersfield want Patterson permanently

Steve Evans has admitted that loanee Liam Bridcutt’s future at Leeds United might depend on which division his parent club play in next season.

Bridcutt has found opportunities hard to come by in the Premier League for Sunderland, but that situation may change if the Black Cats are relegated to the Championship.

Evans said: “Do Sunderland stay in the Premier League? If so, Liam could be looking to move on. But, if they go down to the Championship, Sam [Allardyce] will have an opinion on what he should do, whether that’s in or out.

“I know he’d love to be here. He’s still enjoying his football. How do I know that? Apart from the fact he tells me on a daily basis, look at his performances.”

Bridcutt has played 16 times for Leeds since joining them on loan in late November.

Middlesbrough were linked with a loan move for Swansea City winger Jefferson Montero on Thursday. However, the Welsh club have come out to deny that the Ecuadorian speedster could be leaving the Liberty Stadium this season.

A Swansea spokesperson said: “There are no plans for Jefferson Montero to go anywhere on loan.

“As things stand, he will stay at Swansea for the rest of the season.”

Huddersfield Town could sign Jamie Paterson on a permanent basis if a deal can be made with Nottingham Forest.

That is according to the head of football operations Stuart Webber. The 24-year-old has impressed in his 22 appearances, scoring five times.

Webber said: “Jamie is a good player who has done well for us, certainly since David arrived in November. He would like to stay and, if the deal is right, we would like to keep him.

“We feel Jamie can do better as well, he is not the finished article, but we would like to keep him if the opportunity arises, that’s for sure.”
