Leeds United are putting to rest their interest in Norwich City striker Kyle Lafferty.

The Whites have been consistently linked with the 28-year-old striker over the last few months.

It was assumed that Lafferty would be making the switch to Elland Road in January, but when that move panned out it seemed as though Leeds may have returned for him once the emergency loan window opened.

That has not been the case, and head coach Steve Evans suggested it was due to the financial terms required for the deal.

Evans said: “What Norwich were asking for - if you add the package on top of that... I’m not going to give you the numbers as it would be unprofessional, but it was huge. Huge.

“It would have completely ripped the dressing room apart.

“I have a responsibility as the head coach. I’m not saying that somebody can’t come in and earn a bit more if they have got that much more quality, but we can’t have most lads earning one and somebody coming in on 12 - that just wouldn’t be right.”

Huddersfield Town were linked with a move for Liverpool’s Joao Teixeira on Monday, which led to David Wagner being asked at his press conference whether he was keen on a move.

Teixeira’s contract expires this summer. At 23-years-old, there is a feeling that he may leave Anfield to find first team football.

Wagner refused to be drawn on whether he would be interested in signing him, saying: “I think he will have unbelievably good options in the future.”
