The Tigers have been strongly linked with a move for Bristol City winger Hakeeb Adelakun, and while McCann refused to be drawn on whether the ex-Scunthorpe United man is one of his targets, he did reveal some interesting news at Thursday morning's press conference.

"We are working on an incoming today. We're hoping to add to our squad today to give us a bit more strength-in-depth." City's head coach said.

"The medical was done yesterday. The paperwork side needs to be finalised and I’m not comfortable speaking about it until that's done.

"He’s free to train this morning. We just need to complete the formalities.

"We’re working on another one too. Whether it’s in-time for the weekend I’m not sure, but it [League One] is a demanding league and we want to have enough strength in-depth within this squad.”

City travel to Northampton Town in League One on Saturday and while they could have at least one new addition available for the trip, it seems likely that they will be without skipper Richie Smallwood.

The midfielder was injured in Hull's midweek Carabao Cup loss at West Ham United and is penciled in for a scan on Thursday afternoon.

Asked if he expected Smallwood to be fit to play against Northampton, McCann said: "Possibly not.

"He's got a scan today. We don't think it's too bad but he will be a doubt for Saturday."

Targetman Tom Eaves will definitely miss out, however McCann is confident that Hull's number nine should be able to return to training in the next week or so.
