Grant McCann delighted by support from Hull City owners during transfer windows

Grant McCann has been delighted with the support Hull City's much-maligned owners have given him in this season's transfer market, and says the club are building for the future, as well as simply to get out of League One.

McCann has been allowed to assemble a squad of formidable depth since the disappointment of relegation last season, when he was let down by the deadline-day sales of Jarrod Bowen and Kamil Grosicki, who were not adequately replaced.

Twelve months on, he has been allowed to add Gavin Whyte, Dan Crowley, Jordan Flores and Max Clark to the squad.

Whyte and Crowley are on loan, the other two joined as free agents, and they have been balanced by the departures of Hakeeb Adelakun, recalled by Bristol City, and Jordy De Wijs, Max Sheaf and Martin Samuelsen, initially on loan, but nevertheless it is still a commitment during the pandemic.

Perhaps more importantly, the club have been able to tie a cluster of homegrown players led by Keane Lewis-Potter to new contracts.

“It's all been a collaborative approach,” said McCann.

“We've all bought into the process in terms of what we want to do and the owners have been great in terms of backing me and the squad, bringing the players in we feel are going to help us not only now but in the future, committing players on contracts, and we want to try and build for the future of the football club, not just this season but the years to come as well.”
