Relegated from the Championship last term, the Tigers kick-off their first campaign as a third-tier club in 15 years on the road at Gillingham on Saturday.

Head coach McCann has already signed four new players this summer as he looks to take City straight back up, and although he is still aiming to bring in another three, it will likely be next week before the Northern Irishman will be able to get deals over the line.

Asked if supporters could expect to see any more business concluded in time for this weekend's clash with the Gills, he replied: "Possibly not. It's probably a bit too late now.

"In terms of us, players have to have a medical, which is held in London and they're an all-day thing, so we're probably looking at the early part of next week.

"We are working very, very hard to bring in two or three bodies to give us a little bit of a push and to help this group.

"We're trying really hard to strengthen because I think that's important leading into this season with the amount of games that are coming."

City have been linked strongly with moves for Bristol City winger Hakeeb Adelakun and Exeter attacker Randell Williams in recent days, but McCann refused to be drawn on whether he is keen on either player.

"Over the last week or so, we've been linked with a lot of players. When [transfer] windows are open, it just takes one agent to talk about a player and then all of a sudden it's all over the press," he added.

"I'm not going to get drawn into talking about anyone else's players."

One player on the verge of completing a move who McCann was happy to speak about was outgoing midfielder Leo Da Silva Lopes.

The 21-year-old has traveled to Belgium to negotiate terms with Cercle Brugge after the Tigers accepted an undisclosed bid for his services.

"I believe he's there now, speaking to the club and we'll see how that progresses over the next day or two," said the City chief.

"He's been given permission to go and speak.

"I've no idea [of the transfer sum] I don't get involved in any of that. It's obviously a fee that the club's accepted and got what they want, which is a pleasing thing."

McCann went on to confirm that he does not anticipate any more of his players departing the KCOM Stadium in the near future, adding: "There's nobody else going out. We're just looking to recruit."
