Grimsby Town 0 York City 0: York on the board as Ingham denies Town

YORK CITY did well to gain a point from a hard-fought game against relegated Grimsby at Blundell Park.

Michael Ingham made two great second-half saves to foil Grimsby and Michael Gash had a shot turned over the bar by Ken Arthur in a pulsating finish.

York brought in Michael Rankine and Neil Barrett to replace Jonathan Smith and the injured Levi Machin who were in the side which lost at home to Kidderminster on Saturday.

York, who switched from their usual 4-4-2 formation to 4-3-3, had an equal share of a fast moving first half, although they were lucky not to drop behind in the eighth minute when Ingham missed a corner from Rob Eagle before the ball was cleared.

Michael Leary shot inches wide of Ingham's right hand post before Barrett had a shot deflected for a corner at the other end.

York missed a great chance on 29 minutes when Alex Russell put a perfect through ball for Richard Brodie only for the York striker to shoot wide.

Grimsby had the better of the second half with Ingham making a fine save to deny Coulson who then cracked a cross-shot inches wide in the next attack.

The ever-dangerous Coulson had a low shot saved and an exchange of passes between Brodie and Gash ended with Gash having a rising shot turned over the crossbar.
