Guiseley 0 Aldershot 4: Brodie double hands out harsh lesson to newcomers

Guiseley manager Mark Bower said: “I thought for the first 20 minutes we were good, but we were punished. It’s disappointing but there are lessons to be learnt, they were sharper than us.”

Guiseley created chances from the off with Wayne Brooksby seeing his looping effort go just over.

Tom Craddock was then unable to direct his header on target.

Aldershot took the lead when former York City striker Richard Brodie worked his way towards goal and produced a clinical finish, though it did appear there was a foul in the build-up.

Guiseley were not disheartened by conceding for the first time at home in the National League and started to attack again with both Craddock and Adam Boyes delivering good crosses.

Aldershot doubled their lead before half-time when Rhys Browne produced a good strike which was palmed away by Steven Drench but only to Jim Stevenson, who was able to get the ball into the net.

Even by the break, the visitors knew their long journey to Yorkshire was not going to be in vain.

The start of the second half saw Aldershot get their third with Cheye Alexander easing past the Guiseley defence and providing a cool finish.

It was 4-0 late on, when Brodie got his second after evading the Guiseley defence and ensuring it was a day to forget for the hosts.
