Guiseley promotion continues to falter

Blue Square North: Guiseley will have nightmares over the chances they let slip against a Worcester City side, who staged a smash-and-grab raid for a 1-0 win at Nethermoor.

Worcester’s Danny Coleman was much the busier goalkeeper and made some good saves but Guiseley had only themselves to blame for repeatedly wasting scoring opportunities.

Danny Glover settled the game in Worcester’s favour in the 55th minute with a narrow angled shot following a corner as Guiseley’s bid for promotion continued to falter with a third successive league defeat. They are in sixth place but with games in hand on most of their rivals.

Harrogate Town completed the double over Gainsborough Trinity with a fine 3-1 win.

Harrogate dominated the first half with wingers Wayne Phillips and Richard Marshall prominent but it wasTrinity who came closest to scoring when Sam Aiston’s lob hit the bar.

After only four minutes of the second half, Trinity took the lead when Ryan Kendall headed home a cross from Ryan Williams.

Harrogate responded immediately with the impressive Chib Chilaka setting up Graeme Armstrong and two minutes later Craig James scored from a corner to give Harrogate the lead.

With 20 minutes left, Armstrong added a third from the penalty spot after Chilaka had been upended by ex-Harrogate favourite Nathan Peat.
