Guiseley reach final after Peyton goal

Warren Peyton netted from the spot to give Guiseley a nerve-jangling 3-2 shoot-out win over Boston United and book a place in the Blue Square North play-off final at AFC Telford on Sunday.

It wasn’t another blistering finish from Peyton like the one that edged the first leg 1-0 at Nethermoor; the striker seemed to scuff his shot but it found the net.

Boston had levelled the tie with a goal after 10 minutes but Guiseley were more than a match for them and deservedly edged back in front when Gavin Rothery netted.

Still the home side came back, taking the game into a nail-biting extra time. Darryn Stamp thought he had won the match when he cracked a super volley from 25 yards but Boston again managed to level things, heading in with a minute to go and sending the tie into the shoot-out.

Boston stroked home their first penalty, Jamie Walshaw equalised then Steven Drench went low to his right to make a good save allowing Stamp to nudge Guiseley 2-1 in front.

Drench pulled off another brilliant save but now the tension took over. Danny Boshell’s shot was saved, Boston hit the post and Ryan Toulson sent his shot over the bar.

Boston equalised with their fifth spot kick but Peyton kept his nerve and started the Guiseley celebrations.

“It was nerve wracking but I think we deserved it,’ Guiseley chairman Phil Rogerson said. “It’s great for us to make the final and we’ll travel to Telford confident we can finish the job.”
