The Shaymen have had a hectic summer following the departure of several key players to Football League clubs and a double figure tally of new arrivals.

“We have had four or five fantastic seasons and every one can’t be always like that,” said Ham, who together with David Bosomworth brought the club back to life in 2008 after the old Town had collapsed amid huge debts.

“Neil has really gone to freshen it up, brought in about 11 new players and a few have gone out the door.

“Life isn’t easy because last season we didn’t quite get the crowds that would help take us forward.

“It can take a while for players to gel together and get used to a style of play. We huffed and puffed a bit in pre-season but the real thing starts at Boreham Wood and we will know more then.

“Pre-season can be so misleading. Teams who win every game can start badly and vice versa. We all get a bit concerned but patience is key.”
